Schedules to offer 3-day weekends

Depending on the type of frontline work and industry, work schedules can vary. A retail worker may work the typical 9-to-5 schedule, and a healthcare nurse may have longer shift schedules to care for the clients around the clock.

Being creative with schedules can be particularly beneficial to service based industries such as hospitality, retail and healthcare which often operate at capacity and stifles their growth. Increasing your availability through longer opening hours and more staff availability can be the difference between growth and a lack of it.

While your competitors may stick to a traditional full-time schedules for 40 hour work weeks, it can be helpful to consider alternative work schedule types. Your team members may appreciate flexibility of 3 day weekends instead of sticking to a traditional 9-to-5 schedule.

Full-time

In the United Kingdom, a full time schedule often means team members work 35-40 hours per week —traditionally from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

This type of schedule often suits businesses that want to remain open at the same time are their suppliers in order to improve workflows. Workers who have a family are often also in favour 9-5 schedules in order to align their work schedule more predictably with their children's schooling, family meal times and socials. However, alternatives which offer longer weekends are becoming more popular with parents who do not like to loose annual leave to enjoy short travel breaks with the family or those who work on side hustles or passion projects.

Part-time

For economies that rely on lots of workers early morning, late nights, weekends or on 24 hour coverage to serve clients, you may look to part-time staff because it may be impossible or difficult to consistently to cover the required shifts with the full time 9-to-5 schedule. You may also have roles that do not require full time hours.

Flex-time

Many desk-based business have adopted remote or flex-time schedules to give team members more freedom. It is possible to synchronise workflows by requiring the team to be present on site during core work hours on each working day or specifying regular days when the entire team is in the office together.
